| I had the interview with the environmental company on Wednesday. I think it went well, but you can't always tell. The first interviewer was great, easy to talk to, the second was the VP of the company and it went ok, but not great as I think that he thought I immediately wanted to jump in as a manager without first learning the ropes, which would be a bad idea for both the company and me, and then third, I talked to the director of HR and that was weird. We went through where I grew up, that I lived with my mother not my dad, that he really likes logic (but I think that his logic is definitely flawed. I was thinking of the monty python skit, where the husband is talking about his wife and logic saying that if she is given "all fish live underwater" and "all mackerel are fish", my wife will
conclude, not that "all mackerel live underwater", but that "if she
buys kippers it will not rain", or that "trout live in trees", or even
that "I do not love her any more." This she calls "using her
intuition." I call it "crap," and it gets me very irritated because it
is not logical.), and asking me if i'm honest and right after that, if i'm smart. bizarre. and it didn't start that well probably because i didn't know that he wasn't a technical person because no one told me, so i start talking about zero valent iron, which he kept repeating valent, then trying to explain that's what's in permeable reactive barriers, at which point, he stopped me and told me that he didn't have a clue what i was saying. Good times.
So, I now have another 2 interviews in the upcoming weeks. The first is Shell next Thursday in Houston, so I'm going out with Jeff Thursday and Friday nights. Apparently, Thursday is two-stepping which should be interesting as I have no rhythm, though Jeff is the only one that can make me look like I know what I'm doing, as seen from the 80s prom in New York where people were actually complimenting us for how well we were swing dancing.
The other interview is with USAMRICD, which is usamrid, but the chemical warfare division which is pretty cool. I still need to set up the interview, but I've emailed him with my availability, and we've schedule for the 30th.
I still don't have a clue about the start-up company, though I don't really think I want it. But it's here and we wouldn't have to move, but the money and benefits are shit, so it's hard to decide. Boo.
Anyhow, I've been trying to write my thesis right now, which sucks. But since John's away this weekend for Army, I'm going to take this oppurtunity to work my ass off and get as much done as possible. We'll see how that goes. Have a great week everyone.

| Oh, don't remember who I told or not, but I'm going to the UK next month to visit Mark. That nice $400 voucher from Delta made it so the trip cost a ridiculously low amount. John is going on his tour of the eastern US, including Missouri to visit Dave, Ft. Drum to visit everyone about to deploy, and NJ to visit some of his friends that live there. So, it will be good for both of us as I don't really want to hang out with the guys and he didn't want to go over to England right now.
And I have an interview next week with Shell. Still trying to figure out what to do about the start-up but that's on the agenda for tonight. I'll think about it. Well, have a nice night everyone.

| Seriously, could my week get any worse?
So now the only car that we have, the Buick, is stuck in Philly where some of John's friends are working on it. But now I have NO car this week. And an interview outside of Philly.
Looks like I'm renting a car.
Can anything else go wrong?

| I have another interview on Wednesday. It's an environmental company outside of Philly. Pretty cool. They're looking for an environmental scientist, so this at the very least, will be an oppurtunity to see whether I want to go into the environmental field or more in the chemistry. I also have a chemical warfare researcher interested in me too. He asked for references Friday and will be calling me again early in the week. And Shell is supposed to be telling me tomorrow whether or not I have a second interview with them. So, on the job front, things appear to be moving.
As for research, I've met with Tom and he seems happy with the data I've given him. I just need to finish up some experiments on surface tension of polymers and then, fingers crossed, I'll be done. Which is why I'm in lab on a Sunday trying to finish up.
